President Donald Trump has once again followed through on his promises — this time taking direct action to bring order to a city that’s been spiraling under Democrat rule. After years of unchecked crime and political hand-wringing, Trump has put Washington, D.C.’s police force under federal control and called in the National Guard to restore law and order.
On Monday, Trump stood at the White House and announced that he had invoked Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, effectively federalizing the Metropolitan Police Department. He dubbed the move “Liberation Day” for the nation’s capital.
“This is Liberation Day in D.C., and we’re going to take our capital back,” Trump declared.
In a sweeping shake-up, Trump named Drug Enforcement Administration chief Terry Cole as interim federal commissioner for the Metropolitan Police, with Attorney General Pam Bondi now overseeing the department.
“Let me be crystal clear. Crime in D.C. is ending and ending today. We are going to use every power we have to fight criminals here,” Bondi warned.
