Washington’s entrenched political class is in meltdown mode.
A coalition of ex–FBI, intelligence, diplomatic, and national security officials — many of them veterans of the very same corrupt machinery that spent years targeting Donald Trump — is now openly attacking the new leadership of the Bureau. Their crime? Removing entrenched political actors who turned the FBI into a weapon against conservatives.
This group, styling itself as “The Steady State,” fired off an angry open letter blasting FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino. They are furious over the firing of Agents Brian Driscoll, Michael Feinberg, and Walter Giardina — claiming it was an act of “political revenge.”
According to these former officials, the agents were punished simply for refusing to “toe the MAGA line.” Conveniently left out of their argument is the fact that the Bureau’s leadership had spent years targeting Trump allies, investigating political opponents, and burying evidence harmful to Democrats.
The personnel changes come as Patel and Bongino move forward with what supporters call a “long overdue purge” of politically biased actors from inside the FBI.
One of the dismissed agents, Brian Driscoll, briefly served as acting FBI director before Patel took over. Walter Giardina, meanwhile, was directly involved in the January 6 investigations — probes widely criticized as partisan witch hunts targeting Trump supporters nationwide.
