Moms for Liberty has been at the forefront of a national movement, pushing back against the presence of sexually explicit books in public school libraries and materials that push divisive racial and gender ideology.
The training materials went further, accusing the group of weaponizing “parents’ rights as a vehicle to attack public education and make schools less welcoming for minority and LGBTQ students.”
The smear mirrored language used by the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which has also labeled Moms for Liberty an “anti-government extremist” group — a designation heavily criticized by conservatives for years.
Tina Descovich, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, responded strongly to the accusation.
“Moms for Liberty is here to show up at school board meetings, speak out against curriculum, failing schools, inappropriate books maybe in your public school library,” Descovich said.
She also drew a sharp contrast with Antifa, which has been tied to riots, arson, and violent street clashes.
“Antifa is burning down whole cities and parts of cities and rioting in the streets,” she said.
“These two are not equivalent.”
Moms for Liberty obtained the controversial police training materials through a freedom of information request filed with the MPTC.
Descovich says the real question is why police in Massachusetts are being told to view law-abiding parents as potential extremists.
“We have to ask what is going on here in Massachusetts with these trainings to police officers,” she said.
She made it clear the organization poses no danger to public safety.
“We are not conducting ourselves in a way that police ever need to be concerned about the way we act,” Descovich explained.
According to Descovich, the group’s Plymouth County chapter leader first brought the issue to her attention — and even shared that local police officers have quietly offered encouragement.
“Please keep going. We can’t talk about it publicly, but I have kids. I appreciate you guys speaking out. So thank you for your courage and your bravery,” the officers reportedly told them.
The controversy is fueling criticism over how taxpayer-funded law enforcement training is being shaped — and whether political bias is influencing the way police view parents standing up for their children’s education.
