The White House confirmed Friday that the high-profile summit will take place on August 15 in Alaska, marking the first direct sit-down between the two leaders since Trump’s return to the Oval Office. Earlier this year, Trump left open the possibility of meeting in Turkey, but those plans were shelved after Putin abruptly walked away from separate talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The central focus of the Alaska summit will be a potential end to the bloody war in Ukraine — a conflict that erupted in 2022 and has since become Europe’s deadliest since World War II.
