Powell Didn’t See THIS Trump Move Coming

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

The look on Powell’s face said it all. Visibly caught off guard, the normally composed Fed chair appeared rattled, shaking his head in disbelief.

“I haven’t heard that from anybody at the Fed,” Powell replied, clearly uneasy.

Trump had just exposed a $600 million discrepancy—money unaccounted for, right under Powell’s watch. Whether it was gross mismanagement or intentional deception, the message was clear: the Federal Reserve has some explaining to do.

And the excuses came fast.

As Trump handed over the figures, Powell fumbled for his glasses and tried to push blame elsewhere. He argued the higher cost included a separate building project.

“You just added in a third building is what that is — that’s a third building,” Powell said.

But Trump wasn’t buying it.

“Well, I know but it’s a building that’s being built,” Trump fired back.

Still cornered, Powell doubled down.

“No — it was built five years ago. We finished Martin five years ago.”

The moment was damning. At a time when American families are struggling with inflation, the Fed has been quietly spending billions on what amounts to a luxury palace.

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who was also on the tour, confirmed suspicions about Powell’s misleading testimony.

“We had it in my banking committee, and [Powell] said we were wrong. And it turns out we were right,” Scott stated.

And it gets worse.

White House Budget Director Russell Vought had previously sounded the alarm, describing the extravagant renovation as resembling “the Palace of Versailles.” He noted the cost per square foot was twice that of normal federal projects.

And what were taxpayers funding? Lavish rooftop gardens, marble-lined hallways, private dining lounges, fancy elevators, water features, and even beehives—yes, beehives.

Though Powell claimed these luxuries had been removed from the blueprints, Trump’s team found evidence indicating otherwise. Once again, Powell’s credibility is in serious question.

No one has ever held the Fed to account like this. After years of operating in the shadows with zero Presidential oversight, Trump’s visit put the central bank directly in the spotlight—and it’s not a good look.

As a former real estate mogul, Trump knows how to sniff out a construction scam.

“When you spend $2.5 billion on, really, a renovation, I think it’s really disgraceful,” Trump said bluntly.

This showdown also comes as Trump increases pressure on Powell to cut interest rates, arguing that high rates are crushing the middle class in the wake of Biden-era inflation. Powell, so far, has refused.

Now, with his mismanagement exposed, Powell is backpedaling. He’s asked for an inspector general review and the Fed quickly slapped together a defensive FAQ page to try and justify the outlandish costs.

But it’s too little, too late.

What Powell hoped would be a soft-focus media event became a brutal reality check. And Trump made sure every American saw it.

The images of a rattled Powell, hunched over Trump’s documents with a hard hat on his head, will haunt the Fed chair for months. It was accountability in real time—something Washington doesn’t see enough of.

Trump’s message was unmistakable: the days of unchecked waste are over.

“I believe that the chairman is going to do the right thing, maybe a little too late, as the expression goes, but I believe he’s going to do the right thing,” Trump said after the tour.

Whether Powell follows through or not, Trump has already won the moment—and reminded the D.C. elite that someone is finally watching the money.
