That absence appears to stem from a fiery confrontation earlier in the week between Bongino, Bondi, and Trump adviser Susie Wiles. At issue was a news story indicating that Bongino and former Trump official Kash Patel were increasingly frustrated by the DOJ’s unwillingness to be transparent with the American people about Epstein’s powerful connections.
NBC News described the moment as “a confrontation Wednesday at a meeting with Bondi and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles during which Bongino and Patel were asked about a news story suggesting they were dissatisfied with the decision not to release any additional Epstein files.”
The memo released last week made it clear the DOJ has no intention of releasing further documents on Epstein — a move that’s only stoked public distrust and internal tension.
By Friday night, whispers grew louder that Bongino might walk away for good unless Bondi was removed from her post. For Bongino — known for his blunt honesty and fierce loyalty to the America First movement — it appears the Epstein cover-up may be a bridge too far.
Then, over the weekend, President Trump finally weighed in — and not just with words. While leaving the FIFA Club World Cup Finals, Trump took a few moments to address the growing fallout.
“I spoke to him today. Dan Bongino is a very good guy. I’ve known him a long time,” Trump told reporters. “He sounded terrific,” Trump added, noting Bongino seemed to be in “good shape.”

But Trump didn’t stop there. On Saturday afternoon, he took to Truth Social to deliver a scorched-earth statement on the infighting, the Epstein files, and what he sees as betrayal from within.
