Texas is grappling with unspeakable tragedy after catastrophic floods ripped through communities in Central and West Texas over the weekend, leaving dozens dead and scores of children still missing amid frantic rescue efforts.
Officials have confirmed at least 51 lives lost, including 15 children, as violent flash floods barreled across the region beginning Friday. The scale of devastation has stunned even seasoned emergency crews, who continue to scour flood-ravaged areas for survivors.
One of the most harrowing chapters of this disaster is unfolding at Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp nestled near the Guadalupe River in Kerr County. As of Sunday, 27 children remain unaccounted for after raging waters inundated the campgrounds.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott painted a grim picture after surveying the scene himself. “Today I visited Camp Mystic. It, and the river running beside it, were horrendously ravaged in ways unlike I’ve seen in any natural disaster,” Abbott said Saturday.
