In a dramatic twist that has infuriated conservatives and cheered the radical Left, a Clinton-appointed federal judge in San Francisco has issued a last-minute restraining order against President Donald Trump, effectively halting his efforts to restore order in riot-torn Los Angeles.
U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer, brother of retired Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, ruled late Thursday that President Trump’s decision to take control of California’s National Guard was unlawful, siding with Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom in a blistering rebuke of the President’s authority.
This stunning move comes in response to escalating unrest in Los Angeles, where anti-ICE demonstrators have turned the city into a warzone. On Monday, over 700 U.S. Marines were mobilized as violent protesters surrounded federal buildings and clashed with law enforcement in the heart of L.A.
In response to the violence, President Trump had taken decisive action by deputizing 4,000 National Guard troops to aid in quelling the riots. The move, aimed at stabilizing the situation, drew sharp backlash from California Democrats who accused the President of trampling states’ rights.
