In a move stirring new waves of intra-party tension, Senator Rand Paul revealed this week that he was disinvited from the White House’s annual congressional picnic—an apparent fallout over his vocal opposition to President Trump’s massive spending proposal, dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Paul, never one to shy away from challenging leadership—even his own party’s—told reporters on Wednesday, “petty vindictiveness” was the likely motive behind the unexplained disinvitation.

“I wasn’t given a reason,” Paul stated, adding that he has “no idea” if the directive to snub him came straight from President Trump himself.
The snub comes as tensions continue to rise on Capitol Hill over ballooning federal spending and the administration’s push to raise the national debt ceiling. Paul has stood firm as one of the bill’s sharpest critics—particularly railing against the proposal’s inclusion of a multi-trillion-dollar debt ceiling hike.
