President Joe Biden returned to the public eye Friday, stepping onto the Memorial Day stage in New Castle, Delaware, and delivering remarks that quickly veered off-script — and off the rails.
It was the first time Biden has addressed the public since acknowledging he has metastatic cancer. The 82-year-old appeared visibly weak as he stepped out of his vehicle, his slow gait and stiff posture drawing concern.
While the day was meant to honor fallen service members, Biden quickly turned the solemn occasion into a deeply personal reflection, once again invoking the memory of his late son Beau — and blurring facts in the process.
“I know for many of you, Memorial Day, like for us, is deeply personal. For the Bidens, this day is the 10th anniversary of loss of my son Beau, who spent a year in Iraq. To be honest, it’s a hard day,” Biden said.
