President Trump’s ambitious plan to spark what he’s calling a “Golden Age of America” may be hitting a serious snag in the Senate—thanks to some pushback from within his own party.
After months of backroom wrangling and tense negotiations, Trump’s massive budget reconciliation package—dubbed by the former president as the “One Big Beautiful Bill”—squeaked through the House last week by a razor-thin margin. But now it faces steep resistance in the Senate, where Republican Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) is signaling he’s ready to lead the charge to kill it.
“I couldn’t care less if he’s upset. I’m concerned about my children and my grandchildren and the fact that we are stealing from them. We are stealing from our children and grandchildren. $37 trillion in debt and we’re going to add to it as Republicans? That is unacceptable, and that’s why there is no way I’m going to vote for this bill in its current form,” Johnson told reporters bluntly.
