Democrat U.S. Representative LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) is facing backlash after allegedly assaulting a federal agent while attempting to storm an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in New Jersey earlier this week. The incident, captured on bodycam footage, shows McIver elbowing and body-slamming an agent while demanding access to the detention center, according to reports.
The confrontation reportedly took place at the Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark, where McIver was joined by fellow Democratic lawmakers Bonnie Watson Coleman and Rob Menendez, as well as Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. Baraka was later arrested on trespassing charges after the group allegedly forced their way into the facility.
Footage from the chaotic scene appears to show McIver repeatedly shoving and elbowing a federal agent while yelling, “I touch whoever I want mother***er!” The congresswoman also reportedly threatened to destroy the careers of ICE agents who attempted to stop the aggressive group from inspecting the facility without authorization.
