U.S. Attorney Ed Martin downplayed any notion that Noem was specifically targeted due to her high-ranking role. “There is no indication it was because of that,” Martin told NBC News. “It was frankly, it was a nice looking purse. This was not an amateur. This was a person, a thief, that knew how to do this. You could see how he scouted the room out.”

Reports reveal the purse, worth a staggering $4,400, was left by Noem’s feet at the restaurant when the thief struck. In addition to the main bag, a Louis Vuitton Clemence wallet valued at $600 was also stolen, according to the filed complaint.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect wearing a surgical mask, dark pants, a jacket with a “fur-type” collar, and a ball cap as he swiped the bag before fleeing the scene.
In a candid interview with conservative podcaster Vince Coglianese, Noem described the shocking moment: “It was kind of shocking, actually, because it was sitting right by my feet. I actually felt my purse — he hooked it with his foot and drug it a few steps away and dropped a coat over it and took it,” she said. “I thought it was my grandkids kicking me in the legs, but it was very professionally done.”
The ordeal, Noem said, offered a sobering reminder about the dangers facing everyday Americans. “It tells me that this happens all the time to people, and that they live in communities where this is a danger and it reaffirms why I’m here,” she added during the interview.

Martin assured the public that justice will be swift and final. Once in full custody, both suspects will be handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation proceedings. “President Trump’s direction to us is we charge these folks that are here illegally and we prosecute them, as well as deport them when need be, you know, as soon as that can happen,” Martin told NBC News.
