In yet another stunning display of political theater, two House Democrats are trying to organize an official trip to El Salvador to visit a high-security prison housing dangerous criminals—one of whom, they claim, deserves to be brought back to the U.S. despite being linked to the brutal MS-13 gang.
According to Axios, Reps. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) and Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) have requested permission to lead a congressional delegation, or CODEL, to El Salvador. The goal? To visit the notorious Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT), a massive, state-of-the-art prison built to contain the worst of the worst. But their efforts aren’t just about oversight—they’re a direct challenge to the Trump administration’s renewed push to crack down on violent illegal aliens.

Sources told Axios that “dozens” of Democrats have privately voiced interest in tagging along—likely hoping to score political points by opposing Trump’s tough stance on immigration and deportation.
The sticking point? Any official delegation must be approved by House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.). As Axios admitted, “A CODEL would provide the members with crucial oversight powers and security resources,” meaning Democrats need Comer’s green light to move forward officially.
