Meanwhile, Schumer has become the central figure of the standoff. Once known as an opponent of shutdowns, the New York Democrat is now under fire from both Republicans and members of his own party. Even left-leaning media outlets that typically shield Democrats are beginning to question his strategy.
On Tuesday night, three Senate Democrats broke ranks and joined Republicans in supporting a temporary funding bill. That level of defection, rare in today’s hyper-partisan climate, shows the deep divisions within Schumer’s caucus.
The political blame game is already in full swing. Republicans are branding this stalemate as the “Schumer Shutdown,” and the label appears to be gaining traction. If the phrase sticks, Democrats may find themselves in serious political trouble, especially as voters grow tired of Washington gridlock.
Schumer’s motivations are now under intense scrutiny. Rumors are swirling that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — one of the most radical progressives in the House — could launch a primary challenge against him in 2028. For that reason, critics believe his current refusal to compromise is less about governing and more about saving his own political career.
“I think that Chuck Schumer, clearly, is choosing his political livelihood over what’s best for the country. He is answering to his base, his far left base, who are demanding that he shut this government down. Look at everything he’s done, step by step; he wanted to shut this government down,” Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) told Newsmax Tuesday evening.
Marshall also pointed out that Democrats seem unwilling to accept election results when it comes to fiscal policy.
“What his base doesn’t realize yet is that they lost the election. That elections have consequences,” Marshall said. “All we’ve asked them to do is continue funding at the levels that they chose, and instead, they want one and a half trillion dollars more. So Chuck Schumer owns this. Their demands are just simply not even worth even considering yet.”
The Kansas senator accused Schumer of caving to the radical wing of his party while ignoring the needs of the American people.
“I think Chuck Schumer is trying to save his own skin because he has AOC attacking him from his left. His base is attacking from his left as well. The left has taken over the Democrat Party. They have Trumpitis; anything to do with President Trump, they want to be against it as well,” Marshall said.
He continued, “So, their hatred for Donald Trump is so strong they’re willing to shut down the government at the expense of the American people as well. This is really political theater at this point in time. I hope the shutdown is short. I hope that we return to responsible spending as well, and that’s what our goals are, keep the government open with responsible spending.”
Marshall even speculated about Schumer’s game plan, suggesting the Democrat leader might intentionally drag the shutdown out for dramatic effect.
“I think that Chuck Schumer has a drama plan, probably to keep the government shut down over the weekend and to appease his base, and suddenly he’ll see the light next week, hopefully before anybody misses their paychecks as well. But I think he wants the drama. He loves the camera,” Marshall said.
“He’ll be in front of the camera all weekend, stirring things up as well. But I think that at the end of the day, the American public knows that this shutdown is resting on Chuck Schumer’s shoulders,” he added.
With the nation watching and frustration mounting, one thing is clear: the longer this shutdown drags on, the more political pressure will land squarely on Schumer and the Democrats.
Any Senate Democrats that voted to shut down the government, remember them If they run for reelection and vote them out. The Senate Democrats are not thinking of “We The People”! They are only thinking of themselves and how much power they want to keep getting or keep. They have shown their true side by shutting down the government once again, just for spite. Remember every election year if they are running for reelection, be sure that you get rid of them and get somebody that supports the American People and helps them instead of giving the american peoples hard earned money to the illegals. The Senate Democrats ONLY care about themselves and they keep proving it over and over and slowly but surely, hardcore Democrats are beginning to see and understand that the Senate Democrats are not supporting anything good for the American People. They just want to help the illegals so that eventually they can get them citizenship and have them vote for them and then they will run the whole show into the ground which will be devastating to the United States of America! People are beginning to see what was behind this whole set up that the Democrats have been doing for years. The current Senate Democrats assume that the Voting Democrats are stupid and will not see what is really going on.
That’s the Senate Democrats first mistake! WE Democrats now have our eyes open!
