A devastating aviation disaster unfolded Wednesday when an American Airlines flight carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided with a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter, sending both aircraft crashing into the icy waters of the Potomac River. Among those aboard the doomed flight were top figure skaters returning from the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, along with their Russian coaches.
Authorities scrambled to the scene as emergency teams braved the freezing temperatures in search of survivors. However, D.C. Fire Chief John Donnely offered a grim assessment, stating, “There did not appear to be any,” according to Fox News.
