Winter Storm Sparks Trump’s Emergency Power Move

The Trump administration is taking aggressive action to prevent widespread blackouts as one of the most dangerous winter storms in years barrels toward the United States.

With Winter Storm Fern forecast to unleash heavy snow, ice, freezing rain, and brutal cold across a massive stretch of the country, federal energy officials are sounding the alarm about grid reliability. Millions of Americans could be impacted as electricity demand surges and infrastructure faces extreme stress.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright formally warned power authorities that the situation could escalate into a national crisis. In a letter sent to reliability coordinators and balancing authorities, Wright said the department is prepared to invoke emergency authority under federal law to prevent catastrophic outages.
