Oliver Darcy, a CNN reporter, left his supervisor Chris Licht’s office “visibly shaken” after receiving criticism for the way he covered the Trump town hall meeting. Reporter Darcy became uneasy after Licht questioned his “emotional” reporting style.
Darcy was called into a meeting for his critical coverage of leftist reaction on the network. Licht is dissatisfied with how the matter is being presented, according to many sources. After the town hall, Darcy voices his displeasure in the “Reliable Sources” newsletter.
“It can’t be based on emotion, it’s got to be based on fact,” A person with knowledge of the incident said that CNN employees were “appalled” by a newsletter from Darcy. According to Fox News, Licht, president of CNN, held a meeting and discussed his concerns with Darcy.
“It’s hard to see how America was served by the spectacle of lies that aired on CNN Wednesday evening,” Darcy penned the newsletter. He continued by expressing dissatisfaction that Trump’s “lies” could not be verified by moderator Kaitlan Collins but that “CNN aired it all.”
The writer interpreted Licht’s words to Darcy as, “I’m asking you to not be emotional.”
A meeting allegedly took place after Licht endorsed Trump’s town hall on CNN’s Thursday morning editorial call, according to Puck News.
“Darcy stood by his work and pushed back on the ‘emotional’ characterization, one source with knowledge of the meeting said. But afterward two sources who heard about the meeting described him as visibly shaken. ‘They put the fear of God into him,’ one source said,” Journalist Dylan Byers of Puck News reported on Friday.
