The outrage was so over-the-top, it actually revealed just how thin the left’s “tolerance” really is.
The Hypocrisy Runs Deep
Here’s where things get interesting. The same West Hollywood government that bowed to federal law in 2025 once tried to ban Donald Trump from their city back in 2016.
Then-Mayor Lindsey Horvath proudly announced that Trump wouldn’t be allowed to campaign in West Hollywood. She told The Advocate at the time: “The hate speech and implicit calls to violence coming from Trump and his campaign are beyond the pale and have no place in any community in our country.”
During a CNN interview, she doubled down, saying the city was “very diverse, we’re very open, we’re very welcoming” – but apparently only if you’re not a Republican. “This isn’t about free speech, this is about hate speech,” she told Brooke Baldwin.
Legal scholars laughed off the stunt, pointing out it was unconstitutional prior restraint. But West Hollywood officials didn’t care. Back then, it was all about playing to the woke crowd.
Fast forward to 2025, and the same city had no choice but to honor Kirk in the exact way they once claimed Trump didn’t deserve.
Leftist Meltdown Caught on Camera
The city issued a damage-control statement insisting the flag-lowering “should not be interpreted as an expression of alignment with, or endorsement of, Mr. Kirk’s political views or actions.” In plain English: “We don’t like this, but federal law ties our hands.”
That didn’t stop left-wing activists from throwing fits. RuPaul’s Drag Race star Laganja Estranja whined on Instagram: “This is wild!! I’m all for empathy but this is just ridiculous. He hated us, raise our flags back up!!”
Another performer, Willam, moaned: “Why are we as a people in WeHo listening to Trump?”
The answer is simple: because presidential proclamations carry actual legal weight. Unlike West Hollywood’s phony “ban” on Trump in 2016, this time they couldn’t just ignore the Constitution.
Exposing the Double Standard
This entire fiasco shows the left’s hypocrisy in plain daylight.
In 2016, West Hollywood trampled free speech by barring a presidential candidate they didn’t like. But in 2025, when federal law required them to show respect to a murdered conservative activist, they suddenly realized they couldn’t bend the rules.
The same people who applauded censorship back then are now furious that they had to follow the law today. The irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
The city council has already announced they’ll “reconsider” their flag policy so it “appropriately reflects the values of the West Hollywood community.” Translation: they want to find a loophole so they never have to honor a conservative again.
But here’s the truth: the Constitution doesn’t care about your feelings, your identity politics, or your “community values.” It applies equally to everyone — even those the radical left hates.
And that’s exactly why West Hollywood’s flag stunt blew up in their faces.
