Vice President J.D. Vance delivered a sobering update on Sunday after high-stakes negotiations between the United States and Iran collapsed without a deal. Speaking from Islamabad’s Serena Hotel in Islamabad, Vance revealed that nearly a full day of intense diplomatic engagement ultimately failed to produce an agreement, placing the spotlight squarely on Iran’s refusal to accept U.S. conditions.
The vice president did not mince words when describing the outcome. After approximately 21 hours of back-and-forth discussions, Vance acknowledged the effort was serious but fruitless. “The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement,” Vance said, per Fox News. “And I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America.” His remarks signaled confidence from the U.S. side while suggesting Tehran may have miscalculated its position.
According to Vance, the marathon negotiations were detailed and meaningful, yet ultimately stalled because American negotiators refused to budge on key principles. He emphasized that while discussions were “substantive,” the United States maintained firm boundaries that would not be crossed under any circumstances.
