Late on Saturday night, Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz’s Twitter account was unexpectedly suspended. It came as a surprise to many in the news world and hersuspension has generated debate on social media platforms regarding the power relationships between giant digital corporations and members of press.
According to an in-depth article by Yashar Ali of New York Magazine, Lorenz was perplexed and disturbed by her ban from Twitter. It seems that the causes of this sudden prohibition are yet unknown.

“Taylor Lorenz says she has no idea why she’s been permanently suspended on Twitter. She says she only had two tweets left on her account that were promoting her other social media accounts. She notes she reached out to Elon Musk for comment today on a story she’s working on.”
After some of Lorenz’s remarks against esteemed journalist Bari Weiss created controversy, her suspension happened quickly. According to rumors, Weiss is developing the much-discussed media company The Free Press, which seems to be the next significant development for journalism.
“Notable what gets framed as a ‘buzzy media startup.’ If u start off rich, have a rich spouse, rich friends don’t follow any journalistic ethical rules, and focus your content solely on serving the interests of extremely powerful rich ppl, you can go far!” In reaction to the Axios article, Lorenz tweeted.
The Washington Free Beacon senior writer Andrew Stiles criticized the tweet as “a textbook example of an anti-Semitic trope about how all Jews are rich and powerful, conniving, and immoral.”
Only a few hours after Elon Musk purportedly responded to a doxxing of his live location by lifting restrictions on journalists’ accounts, Lorenz’s ban was also lifted.
