Vice President Kamala Harris, who began her political career as the San Francisco District Attorney, was a central target of Trump’s critique. Harris has long been associated with the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, which has advocated for policies that many argue have been soft on crime. Despite attempts to rebrand Harris as a tough prosecutor, especially for voters in swing states, Trump was unsparing in his criticism.

“Kamala was leading an ‘anti-police crusade’ and had an ‘extremist, pro-crime, anti-police’ agenda,” Trump charged, highlighting her support for the movement to defund the police. Harris had previously voiced her support for reexamining police budgets during a New York radio show in June 2020, stating, “This whole movement is about rightly saying, we need to take a look at these [police] budgets and figure out whether it reflects the right priorities.” She also praised then-Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti for cutting $150 million from the city’s police budget.
