President Donald Trump is once again drawing a sharp contrast between Republican leadership and what he describes as politically motivated outrage from the Left. As Democrats ramp up calls to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem following a deadly Border Patrol encounter in Minneapolis, Trump made it clear he is not backing down.
The controversy stems from a shooting last week involving Border Patrol agents and Alex Pretti, an armed protester who was killed during a confrontation amid ongoing unrest over federal immigration enforcement. While Democrats have seized on the incident to target Noem, Trump instead focused on what he called historic success at the southern border under her leadership.
During an interview with Fox News host Will Cain at an event in Iowa on Tuesday, Trump was directly asked whether recent developments in Minnesota had shaken his confidence in Noem.
“I know you addressed it this morning. You talked about the incredible success, and it is an incredible success at the southern border,” Cain said to Trump during the interview.
