As outrage mounted, President Trump took to Truth Social early Thursday to address the situation head-on. His message left little doubt that he views the Minneapolis unrest as a direct threat to federal authority and public safety.
“If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State,” Trump wrote in his post.
He concluded the message bluntly, adding, “Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT.”
The president’s comments followed a violent incident the previous day that nearly cost an ICE officer his life. According to the Department of Homeland Security, an officer attempting to make an arrest was ambushed by multiple attackers and left with no choice but to defend himself.
DHS detailed the sequence of events in a press release, outlining how quickly the situation escalated into a life-or-death struggle.
“In an attempt to evade arrest, the subject fled the scene in his vehicle and crashed into a parked car. The subject then fled on foot.
The law enforcement officer caught up to the subject on foot and attempted to apprehend him when the subject began to resist and violently assault the officer. While the subject and law enforcement were in a struggle on the ground, two subjects came out of a nearby apartment and also attacked the law enforcement officer with a snow shovel and broom handle.
As the officer was being ambushed and attacked by the two individuals, the original subject got loose and began striking the officer with a shovel or broom stick.
Fearing for his life and safety as he was being ambushed by three individuals, the officer fired a defensive shot to defend his life. The initial subject was hit in the leg.
All three subjects ran back into the apartment and barricaded themselves inside.
The attacked officer and subject are both in the hospital. Both attackers are in custody.”
The violent assault occurred as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey continue to support policies that critics argue embolden anti-ICE activists. Conservatives have long warned that sanctuary policies and inflammatory rhetoric would eventually lead to violence against federal officers — a warning that now appears grimly validated.
Wednesday night’s unrest reportedly included widespread destruction of ICE vehicles, theft of government property, and coordinated attacks that appeared anything but spontaneous. One particularly shocking report described militants physically ripping a weapons locker from a federal vehicle in the middle of the street.
“Anti-ICE rioters tied a TOW ROPE to a weapons locker in a federal vehicle and RIPPED IT OUT with a pickup truck, as Minneapolis PD REFUSED to respond,” Sortor reported.
He added an urgent plea that underscored the growing desperation among both officers and local residents: “THIS IS UNSUSTAINABLE DHS agents are SITTING DUCKS WE NEED MARINES HERE NOW! Locals are BEGGING for relief, 47!”
Beyond Minneapolis, DHS officials are sounding the alarm nationwide. According to the department, assaults on federal officers have surged by an astonishing 1300 percent, while vehicular attacks targeting agents have skyrocketed by more than 3200 percent. Officials say the dramatic increase is directly linked to radical political messaging and the refusal of sanctuary jurisdictions to cooperate with federal law enforcement.
As Minneapolis burns and federal officers face escalating danger, President Trump’s warning signals a potential turning point. Whether Minnesota’s leadership acts or forces federal intervention remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: the patience of the American people, and their former president, is wearing thin.
