Trump Stops Biden Plan That Risked Nationwide Blackouts

Americans were reminded this weekend just how fragile the nation’s power grid has become under the Biden administration’s radical green energy agenda. As Winter Storm Fern slammed large portions of the country with extreme cold and heavy snowfall, the United States narrowly avoided widespread blackouts—not because of wind turbines or solar panels, but because coal plants the Biden administration tried to shut down were kept online at the last minute.

While President Biden repeatedly promised that renewable energy would lead America into a safer, cleaner future, the storm exposed a far different reality. The green energy fantasy collapsed under real-world conditions, and it was traditional energy sources that prevented millions of Americans from being left in the dark during a deadly winter event.

Emergency Orders Stopped a Blackout Catastrophe

The Energy Department revealed this week that decisive emergency actions taken by the Trump administration were the sole reason a nationwide blackout was avoided. Energy Secretary Chris Wright issued emergency orders throughout the weekend allowing key power plants to operate beyond restrictive Environmental Protection Agency limits imposed under Biden.

As a result, five coal-fired power plants—plants Biden had slated for shutdown—remained operational during the storm. Those facilities generated roughly 17 gigawatts of electricity, enough to power approximately 30 million homes when demand surged to dangerous levels.
