Trump’s comments came amid ongoing federal immigration operations in Minnesota, where ICE has been carrying out targeted removals of criminal illegal immigrants. Those operations have sparked protests across Minneapolis and surrounding areas, with demonstrators accusing the federal government of heavy handed enforcement.
Trump rejected that narrative outright, arguing that the protests are shielding dangerous criminals and undermining public safety.
“ICE is removing some of the most violent criminals in the World from our Country, and bring them back home, where they belong. Why is Minnesota fighting this? Do they really want murderers and drug dealers to be ensconced in their community?” Trump wrote. “The thugs that are protesting include many highly paid professional agitators and anarchists. Is this really what Minnesota wants?”
The former president then expanded his criticism beyond Omar, taking aim at Minnesota’s broader political leadership and accusing state officials of using immigration chaos to distract from what he described as massive financial corruption.
“The crooked Governor and ‘Congresswoman’ Omar, who married her brother, don’t mind because it keeps the focus of attention off the 18 Billion Dollar, Plus, FRAUD, that has taken place in the State! Don’t worry, we’re on it!” Donald Trump added.
Omar has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing connected to fraud investigations and has dismissed Republican accusations as politically motivated attacks. No criminal charges have been filed against her related to the allegations cited by Trump.
Still, the congresswoman recently drew renewed backlash after remarks in which she referred to the United States as the “U.S. God—- States” while criticizing immigration enforcement policies. The comment sparked outrage among conservatives, veterans groups, and lawmakers who viewed it as deeply disrespectful.
“No member of Congress should ever refer to our country as the ‘U.S. G—— States,’” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, wrote on X. “What should be the consequence of saying that?”
The controversy quickly attracted attention from major figures outside politics as well. Tech billionaire Elon Musk weighed in on the exchange with a brief but explosive reply.
“Whatever the penalty is for treason.”
The episode underscores how immigration enforcement has once again become a central fault line in American politics, particularly as Trump continues to position himself as the law and order candidate ahead of the next election cycle.
For Trump and his supporters, the issue is straightforward. They argue that ICE operations are aimed at removing dangerous criminals and that resistance from local and state officials only endangers American communities.
For Omar and progressive activists, the protests are framed as opposition to what they describe as unjust enforcement and systemic abuses.
The clash shows no sign of cooling off. With federal investigations, public protests, and high profile political figures trading accusations, Minnesota has become the latest battleground in the national fight over immigration, accountability, and loyalty to the United States.
As Trump made clear in his posts, he believes the spotlight is only beginning to shine brighter.
