President Donald Trump ignited a political firestorm late Sunday night after issuing a blistering statement targeting Rep. Ilhan Omar, calling for her to be jailed or removed from the United States while tying her to massive fraud allegations and ongoing unrest connected to federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota.
The remarks, posted on Trump’s Truth Social account, immediately reverberated across Washington and the national media, landing as tensions continue to rise over Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations and escalating protests in the Twin Cities.
“There is 19 Billion Dollars in Minnesota Somalia Fraud. Fake ‘Congresswoman’ Illhan Omar, a constant complainer who hates the USA, knows everything there is to know. She should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia, considered one of the absolutely worst countries in the World. She could help to MAKE SOMALIA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.
Omar, a Democrat who has represented Minnesota in the House since 2019, was born in Somalia and became a U.S. citizen in 2000. She has long been a lightning rod for controversy, particularly among conservatives, due to her outspoken criticism of U.S. foreign policy, immigration enforcement, and American institutions.
