In a surprising turn, Iran and Israel reportedly agreed not to strike each other through secret Russian channels, The Washington Post reports. That means no war, no American troops in harm’s way, and a rare moment where diplomacy trumped military escalation.
According to reports, Israeli officials contacted Tehran via Vladimir Putin in late December with a simple message: Israel wouldn’t attack first, and Iran promised the same in return. Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly called Putin multiple times to iron out the details, all while Lindsey Graham was publicly demanding that the United States take military action.
