President Donald Trump didn’t mince words during his fiery return to 60 Minutes Sunday night, his first appearance on the CBS program in five years. Sitting across from host Norah O’Donnell, Trump made it clear: New York City’s future — and its funding — are on the line.
When O’Donnell brought up the frontrunner in the city’s mayoral race, 34-year-old Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, she described him as a “Democratic Socialist.” Trump immediately cut her off.
“Communist, not socialist,” Trump shot back. “He’s far worse than a socialist.”
That one-liner sent shockwaves across the political world, especially in New York, where Mamdani has built his campaign around radical left-wing policies and socialist rhetoric.
When asked what would happen if Mamdani wins Tuesday’s election, Trump didn’t hesitate.
“It’s gonna be hard for me as the president to give a lot of money to New York,” he said. “Because if you have a communist running New York, all you’re doing is wasting the money you’re sending there.”
