The Fraudulent FISA Scandal
At the heart of the charges is the FBI’s use of the phony Steele Dossier. Comey and his inner circle signed off on multiple FISA applications to spy on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page — and, by extension, Donald Trump himself.
In those applications, the FBI told the secret court that it was “unaware of any derogatory information pertaining to Source #1 [Steele].” That statement was flat-out false. Comey and his team knew full well that Steele’s work was unverified and politically motivated.
Judicial Watch later revealed that no hearings were even held on these fraudulent applications, meaning Comey’s FBI essentially slipped unchecked lies into the legal system to justify their surveillance.
Dodging Accountability — Until Now
For years, Comey has dodged accountability by hiding behind the cloak of “classified information.” He even requested to testify in open sessions before Congress, knowing that the DOJ’s “classified” labels would keep him from being grilled on his real misconduct.
But that strategy is collapsing. With Thursday’s indictment, Comey can no longer hide. The charges of lying and obstruction strike directly at the heart of his misconduct during the Russiagate scandal.
