The order directs Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to send in troops at the request of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. Trump framed the mission as essential to protecting ICE and federal employees under siege by Antifa and other extremist outfits.
Antifa’s Long Record of Violence
Short for “antifascist,” Antifa supporters insist the group is decentralized. But the reality is plain: black-clad militants act in coordination across cities, waving the same flags, using the same violent tactics, and bringing destruction wherever they appear.
The group’s track record in the Pacific Northwest is particularly notorious. In Portland and Seattle, Antifa operatives have been arrested for arson, political violence, and even murder. Many will remember the August 2020 killing of a Trump supporter by a self-identified Antifa member, as well as the torching of federal courthouses and other government buildings during the Black Lives Matter riots.

The CHAZ Disaster
Antifa and other left-wing radicals also played a central role in the so-called “CHAZ” (Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone) experiment in Seattle. The result? Shootings, two deaths, and armed extremists patrolling city blocks under the guise of “community security.” It was the clearest example yet of what happens when radicals are allowed to run wild without consequences.
Reporters on the Front Lines
Independent journalists like Andy Ngo have documented the group’s brutality for years. Ngo himself suffered a brain bleed after being ambushed and beaten in Portland back in 2019. Despite this, Antifa networks have operated with near-impunity, aided by weak Democrat leadership in cities like Portland that refuses to hold them accountable.
Military Already Active in California
Trump’s latest order isn’t an isolated move. He has already authorized the deployment of military assets in California to secure deportation operations and protect federal agents. That action came after weeks of violent rioting, and the responsibility for troop deployment has remained under Secretary Hegseth’s discretion.
What Comes Next
With Portland once again in the spotlight, Trump’s authorization of “full force” marks a turning point. Federal agents on the ground now know they will be backed not only by the Department of Homeland Security but by military muscle.
And for Antifa? The message is clear: the days of unchallenged mob rule are over.
