In a sweeping move to overhaul federal law enforcement, the Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) has fired multiple senior FBI officials, including high-ranking figures from the Washington and Miami field offices. The terminations, which took place on Friday, also extended to prosecutors involved in politically charged investigations against former President Donald Trump and individuals connected to the January 6 Capitol protests.
Massive Purge Ordered by Acting Deputy Attorney General
Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove issued a memo to Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll on Friday evening, instructing him to immediately terminate eight senior officials. Additionally, Driscoll was tasked with compiling a comprehensive list of all current and former FBI employees involved in January 6-related investigations for a formal review. The directive is seen as part of President Trump’s broader effort to eliminate what he calls “politicized investigations” from the Justice Department.
