No injuries were recorded, and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy found no dangers to anyone in or around Dearborn after doing additional study. Congresswoman Debbie Dingell has already taken action to make sure that any future aid that local authorities may want is related to them.
One of the vehicles was said to be transporting dangerous chemicals, although there was “showing no sign of leaking or damage.”
“We are also in touch with the relevant federal authorities, including the EPA,” Dingell said. “At this time no one is aware of the release of any hazardous materials, the car carrying hazardous material has been put upright and is being removed from the area of the other derailed cars, and EPA is dispatching a team to ensure public safety.
Residents near Huron River Drive and Haggerty have been warned by the Van Buren Police Department because a train accident is being looked into. I-94 southbound at Belleville is still stopped as officials work tirelessly to resolve this problem. Six automobiles were discovered derailed off-track, one of which was thought to be transporting hazardous chemicals. As roads are stopped for many hours owing to continuing investigations, locals are urged to stay away.
