In a dramatic standoff inside Washington, Senate Majority Leader John Thune and several establishment Republicans are standing firm against President Donald Trump’s demand to end the filibuster and finally push through conservative reforms that millions of Americans voted for.
On Thursday morning, President Trump met with Republican Senators at the White House for breakfast and delivered a fiery message — it’s time for Republicans to get serious about governing and to stop hiding behind the 60-vote rule that Democrats have weaponized for years.
“And we should do our own bills,” Trump said, urging Republicans to move forward on legislation that would restore election integrity, “all the things that we want to pass to make our election secure and safe,” including ending mail-in voting and mandating voter ID.
During his remarks, Trump didn’t hold back, directly calling out Senate Majority Leader John Thune and others who continue to protect the procedural roadblock that’s allowed Democrats to stonewall nearly every GOP initiative.
