Linda Yaccarino, the new CEO of Twitter, is making quick work of establishing her online presence. Together with Elon Musk, she made her Twitter debut by outlining their strategy for building “Twitter 2.0.” The idea is to make the platform into an all-encompassing “everything app” with cutting-edge capabilities like online payment processing and shopping. Additionally, Yaccarino is dedicated to hearing Twitter users’ opinions as the digital titans take on the challenge of redesigning social media.
“Thank you [Elon Musk]. I’ve long been inspired by your vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together!” Yaccarino tweeted on Friday. “I see I have some new followers… I’m not as prolific as @elonmusk (yet!), but I’m just as committed to the future of this platform. Your feedback is VITAL to that future. I’m here for all of it. Let’s keep the conversation going and build Twitter 2.0 together!”
Yaccarino’s hire has generated controversy since supporters of free speech disagree with Musk’s plans for Twitter. She has been under fire for her participation in the 2019 World Economic Forum meeting and prior backing of NBC’s DEI programs.
Yaccarino also spoke with Musk at the Miami marketing expo Possible 2023 in April. She stated in the interview that more “influence” from advertising over the creation of products and the editorial control of content would make Twitter a company that investors would be “excited” to support. In addition, she recommended that Musk bring back the controversial “influence council,” describing it as a “recurring feedback loop” in which they had “recurring access” to Twitter.
