The Senate on Thursday passed a $1.7 trillion spending measure with a resounding majority, setting the door for continued government expenditures and programs to proceed as usual.
“The package includes $858 billion in defense spending, a nearly 10 percent increase over the previous fiscal year, and $787 billion in nondefense spending, close to an 8 percent increase. It also would provide roughly $85 billion in supplemental funding for Ukraine and disaster relief.” Roll Call was called.

The House of Representatives is now entrusted with adopting a crucial budget package in light of a Friday night deadline to avert a government shutdown.

The Senate enacted its largest spending package to date after a protracted discussion period. Legislators voiced their support for fiscal 2023 after working through the night on Wednesday and Thursday morning to reach an amendments agreement.
A comprehensive 4,155-page legislative package that covers the nation’s immediate demands as well as its long-term objectives was enacted by Congress by a large margin. The historic measure contains beneficial ideas like retirement savings incentives, driftnet fishing restrictions, and more relief for victims of the Ukraine and other disasters.
“This is one of the most significant appropriations packages we have done in a very long time,” Before the vote, Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer remarked. “The range of people it helps is large and deep.”
Sadly, the package, which includes over $45 billion in aid for Ukraine, does not include any steps to safeguard and protect our country’s border.
This enormous cost crosses the line between need and excess and comes with a plethora of unconscionable additional special interest responsibilities.
Several Republicans voted in favor of this legislation, defying the party line and supporting a contentious bill.

“And to be clear what they voted for: $45 billion of new aid to Ukraine, no funding for border security, raises for the FBI, DOJ, and ATF, and worst of all: deliberately kneecapping the incoming House majority’s leverage over the budget for an entire year,” Greg Price noted.
