Breaking: Deportation Plan Takes Unexpected Turn!

In a closely watched decision Monday, Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Chief Justice John Roberts joined the Court’s liberal bloc in a 5-4 ruling on immigration that could hint at how the justices will handle upcoming cases affecting U.S. border and immigration policies.

The case, Monsalvo Velazquez v. Bondi, centered on a technical aspect of immigration law known as the 60-day “voluntary departure” period. This provision allows certain immigrants, deemed to have “good moral character,” to leave the country voluntarily within 60 days, avoiding formal removal proceedings.

The Court’s decision establishes that when a voluntary departure deadline falls on a weekend or federal holiday, it must automatically extend to the next business day.

Writing for the majority, Justice Gorsuch highlighted that this approach aligns with longstanding administrative practices historically applied in immigration law.
