Stellantis Just Shook the Auto World — Here’s Why!

Stellantis is making headlines again, this time for a claim so bold it has car enthusiasts and critics alike raising their eyebrows. The automaker just unveiled its all-new 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 Turbo engine, set to debut in the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee — and the numbers sound almost too good to be true.

According to Stellantis, this small but mighty four-cylinder produces a staggering 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque while burning 10% less fuel and delivering 20% more power than their previous 2.0-liter. On paper, it’s the kind of performance that could revolutionize their lineup. But after years of engine headaches, many consumers aren’t ready to pop the champagne just yet.

Formula 1 Technology in Your SUV?

The company boasts that the Hurricane 4 Turbo uses “turbulent jet ignition” — a design borrowed from Formula 1 racing engines.

The system “fires a spark plug inside a tiny chamber mounted on top of each cylinder,” Stellantis explained, shooting flames through small holes into the main cylinder for a more complete fuel burn.

Stellantis senior vice president Micky Bly bragged that the engine delivers “162 horsepower per liter of displacement” through the advanced combustion system and a variable geometry turbocharger. Even more shocking, it supposedly runs on regular 87 octane despite its high 12:1 compression ratio — a combination that would normally risk catastrophic engine knock.
