His father agreed instantly — and what confirmed it was the rifle. They recognized it on sight because it was a gift from Robinson’s grandfather, complete with a unique $2,000 scope.
That was the moment they realized their worst fears were true.
A Year of Radical Change
According to Gray, Robinson’s mother admitted her son had changed dramatically in the past year.
“Robinson’s mother explained that over the last year or so, Robinson had become more political and had started to lean more to the left, becoming more pro-gay and trans-rights oriented,” Gray revealed.
The biggest turning point? Robinson’s new roommate — a biological male transitioning genders — who eventually became his boyfriend.
That relationship coincided with heated family disputes and an ideological rift that kept growing wider.
A Father’s Worst Fear at the Dinner Table
Conservative parents will understand this pain all too well. Robinson’s father, a self-described “pretty diehard MAGA,” tried to confront his son about his radical new beliefs. But the conversations only led to clashes.
The boy he raised to share family values started spouting leftist talking points about “hate speech” and “LGBTQ+ rights.”
Robinson even lashed out when Kirk was invited to Utah Valley University, calling it “a stupid venue for the event” and accusing Kirk of “spreading hate.”
Parents Took Action — Even Against Their Own Son
When Robinson’s father recognized the rifle in the FBI’s photos, he didn’t cover for his son. He demanded answers.
He called his son and told him to send proof the rifle was still in his possession. Robinson refused, instead talking about ending his own life. That’s when his parents stepped in, convincing him to come home. They even brought in a retired deputy sheriff to try and talk sense into him.
These were parents who refused to let politics blind them. They turned their son in because they knew protecting him would mean betraying the truth.
Text Messages Show Full Radicalization
The most disturbing evidence comes from text messages between Robinson and his transgender boyfriend.
On September 10 — the day of the shooting — Robinson left a note under his keyboard. It read:
“I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
His boyfriend texted back in shock: “What? You’re joking, right?”
Robinson replied: “I am. I am, I’m sorry.”
When pressed about why he went through with it, Robinson chillingly responded:
“I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”
That phrase alone reveals just how deeply he’d been indoctrinated. He no longer saw Kirk as a human being with different views, but as “hatred” personified — something to be eliminated.
Robinson admitted he had been planning the attack for “a bit over a week.”
The Real Tragedy
Tyler Robinson wasn’t born with a radical worldview. He was shaped by an ideology that teaches young Americans to despise everything their families stand for.
His father’s love for America and support of Trump was twisted into something shameful in Robinson’s eyes. In a final text to his boyfriend before turning himself in, Robinson wrote:
“Since Trump got into office, my dad has been pretty diehard MAGA.”
To him, that was something ugly. To millions of American families, it’s a badge of honor.
A Warning for Conservative Parents
Robinson’s parents did the right thing in the end. They stopped their son from fleeing, persuaded him to surrender, and put their values ahead of protecting him from justice. But they couldn’t stop the poison of radical ideology from taking hold of his mind.
And that’s the real tragedy.
Conservatives across the country should be asking themselves: if it happened in Utah, could it happen in their own home?
Because until America confronts the radical indoctrination happening on college campuses and in popular culture, more young men like Tyler Robinson will be lost to the same hatred that nearly cost Charlie Kirk his life.
The parents did the right thing by turning their son Tyler Robinson in to the police.
