Since Joe Biden was elected president, there have been much more attempts by foreign nationals to enter the United States illegally. There were just three such events throughout the last year of the Trump administration. However, the quantity increased to 16 in Biden’s first year in office. Surprisingly, in 2023, 140 people on the terrorist screening list have already been detained, breaking the previous high of 98 from the previous year. Just the News reported on these discoveries.
According to national security experts, this is not a positive development for the nation and terrorists may be attempting to enter the border with the intention of harming the United States. Fred Fleitz, a retired CIA analyst, stated “This un-secure border, it’s not simply a threat from possible criminals and others in South America, there are people from a variety of countries, not just China, who I think are sneaking in.”
Mark Morgan, a former leader of the border-related organization known as Customs Border Protection, similarly stated to Just the News that “We literally could have the next terrorist sleeper cell in the United States planning a terrorist attack, and we would have no idea.”
Congressmen have also expressed concern about this trend. Reps. Jim Jordan, James Comer, and Mark Green issued a letter to Biden’s Homeland Security Secretary that stated the following: “[t]hese ‘known gotaways’ do not provide biometric or biographic information to USBP agents and continue their journey into the interior of the country without background checks against law enforcement databases.”
The letter went on to say that “[t]errorists and other bad actors will attempt to exploit weaknesses in border security and vetting procedures to infiltrate the United States. We fear these known gotaways could also include illegal aliens with terrorist ties.” They also criticized the government, writing, “[I]t is unclear the extent to which actual legal impediments exist to prevent detention and removal of aliens with terrorist ties, as opposed to impediments imposed by the Biden administration’s misguided policies.”
Also on Twitter, Representative Green criticized the administration for releasing illegal aliens without first properly verifying with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement department. “[t]his is not surprising. Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden set up the system to operate this way.”
Green published a border patrol chief’s assessment from back in March, stating that under Biden, the United States “does NOT have operational control over our southern border.”
