A horrifying incident on Labor Day has brought fresh attention to the ongoing crisis at America’s southern border, with the latest crime involving an illegal immigrant who had previously been deported under the Trump administration. A 26-year-old man from Honduras, identified as Dimas Gabriel Yanez, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a 14-year-old girl while she was watching her brother’s baseball game in Indiana.
According to reports from WGN-TV in Chicago, the violent attack occurred on Saturday at a VFW baseball field in Lake County, Indiana, near the Illinois border. The victim, a young teenager, was reportedly stabbed in the hand by Yanez, who used a “butcher-style knife.” Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening, but this close brush with a far worse outcome has left the local community shaken. The girl was treated and released from a local hospital, but the psychological scars for her and her family will likely last much longer.

This violent assault sparked a swift response from law enforcement, leading to an intense manhunt that ultimately resulted in Yanez’s capture on Sunday. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Yanez’s arrest via a Facebook post, stating that “Investigators have learned Yanez had been deported to Honduras in 2018 and may have been engaged in criminal activity across the United States since returning to the country illegally.”
