Taibbi went on to say “At a crucial moment in a years-long furor, Democrats denounced a report about flaws in the Trump-Russia investigation, saying it was boosted by Russian “bots” and “trolls.””
Twitter swiftly disproved allegations that Russian bots were disseminating misleading material, interacting with legislators directly to highlight the falsity of their assertions.
“Twitter warned politicians and media the not only lacked evidence, but had evidence the accounts weren’t Russian – and were roundly ignored,” he tweeted.
“Nonetheless, national media in January and early February of 2018 denounced the Nunes report in oddly identical language, calling it a “joke””
According to Taibbi, Democrats banded together to subtly disseminate false information from a single source.
“Feinstein, Schiff, Blumenthal, and media members all pointed to the same source: the Hamilton 68 dashboard created by former FBI counterintelligence official Clint Watts, under the auspices of the Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD),” Taibbi explained.
Democrats’ reliance on “Hamilton 68” to get the truth about recent Twitter activity falls short; reporters have looked for additional in-depth investigation techniques.
Yoel Roth searched extensively for any ties to Russia connected to the hashtag “ReleaseTheMemo,” but he was unable to find any.
Twitter tried its best to stop Democrats from spreading false information, but they persevered.
