While Washington remains paralyzed by the ongoing government shutdown, one thing has become crystal clear — President Donald Trump isn’t losing this fight. In fact, according to CNN’s own data expert, he’s coming out stronger while Democrats take the heat.
CNN Analyst Confirms It: Shutdown Not Hurting Trump
During a segment this week, CNN’s Harry Enten revealed polling data that tells a story Democrats don’t want to hear. Enten pointed out that the current standoff has had virtually no negative impact on Trump’s popularity. In fact, it may even be helping him.
“This shutdown hasn’t eaten into Donald Trump support at all. His net approval rating is actually up a point in terms of his popular support,” Enten said. “So the bottom line is this: the first shutdown during Trump’s first term, 2018–2019, was hurting Donald Trump. This one is not hurting him at all. There’s no real reason Donald Trump might say, at least when it comes to popular support, ‘I want to get out of this shutdown.’”
Why the Blame Game Isn’t Sticking
Enten highlighted one crucial difference between now and the last time Washington came to a standstill — fewer Americans are blaming Trump. Back in the 2018–2019 shutdown, a staggering 61 percent of respondents pointed the finger at the former president. Today, that number has dropped to just 48 percent.
