SAVE Act Inches Closer — Dems Nervous?

On Wednesday night, House Republicans once again pushed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act across the finish line, approving the measure 218 to 213. The legislation requires documentary proof of U.S. citizenship and voter identification for participation in federal elections. Only one Democrat, Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas, broke ranks to support it.

Now the battlefield shifts to the upper chamber, where the numbers are tightening and pressure is mounting.

For days, skeptics claimed the bill was dead on arrival in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader John Thune initially downplayed the push, reportedly telling colleagues, “There aren’t anywhere close to the votes.” At the time, he had not even placed his name on the bill as a co-sponsor.

That posture did not sit well with conservatives who view election integrity as a defining issue heading into November.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna went public with her frustration. She accused Senate leadership of hiding behind process instead of fighting for what voters demand. In a fiery rebuke, Luna warned:
