Cracker Barrel used to be known for its warm Southern charm — wooden rocking chairs, cozy fireplaces, and walls lined with Americana. But lately, longtime customers are doing a double take. The once-beloved country restaurant has tossed out its iconic look in favor of something that feels more like a tech startup than a family diner.
Conservative commentator Robby Starbuck dug into the sudden changes and uncovered exactly why Cracker Barrel feels so different. In a 15-minute exposé, Starbuck named Gilbert Davila, a board member since 2020, as the driving force behind the company’s new “woke” direction.
“What qualified him for this board seat?” Starbuck asked in the video. “Well, you see, he’s owned a DEI consulting and strategy firm for 15 years that focuses on pushing DEI and DEI advertising.”
Davila is no ordinary executive. He runs DMI Consulting, a firm that Cracker Barrel itself describes as “a leading multicultural marketing, diversity & inclusion and strategy firm in the United States.” Not only does Davila sit on the board, but he also ranks among the company’s top shareholders. That means he has both influence and financial interest in reshaping the restaurant’s identity.
