In a tragic incident on Friday evening, a medical transport jet crashed into a residential neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia, resulting in a catastrophic explosion and multiple fatalities. The Learjet 55, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, had just departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport en route to Missouri when it went down near the intersection of Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, close to Roosevelt Mall. The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. local time.
On board were six individuals: four crew members, a pediatric patient, and the child’s mother. Tragically, there were no survivors among the passengers. The young patient had recently received care at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia and was being transported back to Mexico. The hospital expressed its deep sorrow, stating, “Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the medical crew and pilots who were also lost in this tragic event—as well as all of the people who were affected on the ground—and we’re thankful to the first responders for their quick action.”

The impact of the crash was devastating, igniting multiple homes and vehicles in the vicinity. Eyewitnesses described the scene as a massive fireball, with one resident noting that the explosion “sounded like a bomb went off.” Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to battle the ensuing fires and assist victims. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker confirmed that, in addition to the six fatalities on board, one person on the ground was killed, and nineteen others sustained injuries. The injured were transported to Temple University Hospital’s Jeanes Campus, where three were treated and released, while the remaining three are in fair condition.
