College basketball fans are waking up to a nightmare that threatens the credibility of the entire sport.

After months of covert financial tracking and game analysis, federal authorities have revealed what may be the largest point shaving operation in modern NCAA history. The scope is so wide that it has sent shockwaves through college athletics and triggered panic inside the NCAA’s headquarters.
Federal prosecutors in Pennsylvania announced indictments Thursday against 26 individuals connected to an international gambling conspiracy that allegedly corrupted 17 Division I basketball programs and nearly 40 players over multiple seasons.
Standing before reporters, U.S. Attorney David Metcalf did not mince words about the damage done to the sport.

According to prosecutors, the operation was not some small underground hustle. It was a coordinated, high dollar criminal enterprise that stretched overseas before planting itself firmly inside American college basketball during the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons.
