Given that Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg is presently under criticism from both Republicans and Democrats for his unlawful and politically motivated pursuit of President Trump, Mayor Adams’ assertion that New York City “respects the rule of law” may be the year’s most cynical statement. The mayor attributed anticipated demonstrations in his community to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. She has frequently advocated for “peaceful” protests, but he never brought it up; instead, he falsely accused her of spewing “misinformation” and “hate speech.”
While the City of New York is renowned for having soft violent criminals, Mayor Adams pledged to “arrest” and hold “accountable” Trump supporters for their “violence or vandalism.”

Sadly, all major crime categories increased except for homicide, which actually showed a decline of 15.2%. Robbery and grand larceny also experienced significant increases, with a respective surge of 33.1% and 58.1%. The city also had a 31.6% increase in gunshot events over this same time period compared to 2021, which is disturbing news in and of itself. These concerning numbers highlight the need of giving public safety programs in our communities top priority.
