OMG – Astronauts Voting from SPACE?!

In a remarkable twist, two astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams, will cast their votes in the upcoming elections from an unexpected location—space. Though initially scheduled for a brief stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS), Wilmore and Williams’ mission has been extended for several months due to technical issues. Their journey began with a ride to the ISS on the Boeing Starliner in July, but they won’t be returning until next year.

The prolonged mission hasn’t dampened their sense of civic duty. Both astronauts are set to participate in a unique voting process that allows U.S. citizens to vote from outer space, a practice that was first implemented in 1997.

“It’s a very important duty that we have as citizens, and I’m looking forward to being able to vote from space, which is pretty cool,” Williams said during a recent press conference from the ISS, expressing excitement about the upcoming elections despite her extended stay in space.
