For years, Rep. Ilhan Omar treated one of the most explosive controversies of her political career as if it were nothing more than a fringe conspiracy. She brushed off questions, accused critics of bigotry, and hid behind carefully scripted denials. But this week, Donald Trump ripped the lid back off a scandal Omar has spent nearly a decade trying to bury.
Trump Reignites the Allegations Omar Wanted Forgotten
The former president jolted the political world by dragging back into the spotlight allegations that Omar once entered a fraudulent marriage — with her own brother — to help him gain legal status in the United States. These accusations have swirled since her earliest campaigns, and although Omar has repeatedly dismissed them as “baseless” and “offensive,” she has never produced the documents that could conclusively clear her name.
Trump didn’t hold back. On Truth Social, he wrote:
“Ilhan Omar, always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came into the U.S.A. illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother, does nothing but hatefully complain about our Country.”
